The Diversity Committee will host another invigorating Book Club event, this time focused on Thick by Tressie McMillan Cottom. Thick is highly acclaimed: 2019 National Book Award Finalist; named a notable book by the New York Times Book Review; and featured on The Daily Show, NPR, PBS, and CBC. The collection of essays introduces us to Cottom’s entertaining and thought-provoking musings on gender, race, beauty, politics, money, media, capitalism and more. Cottom deftly provides a rare—but much-needed—view from the perspective of a modern Black American female author, who throughout her life has too often been deemed “thick where I should have been thin, more where I should have been less.”

With this pick, the Diversity Committee Book Club continues its trend of staring directly into the face of America’s racial, ethnic, and cultural reckoning, while guided by profoundly thoughtful and important voices such as Cottom’s. We urge all Chapter members to get involved with these challenging yet necessary discussions – Book Club offers an academic, inviting, and nonjudgmental space for exploring our personal, professional, and societal relationships with issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity through popular and highly addictive reads by renowned authors. Join us Friday, February 25, 2022, at 12:00pm for a virtual discussion of the book, its themes, and real-life takeaways for contemporary legal practice.

Please RSVP by February 18, 2022.
Directions for joining the Zoom meeting will be sent to registrants at a later date.

All attendees are invited to bring to the meeting their favorite quote, passage, takeaway, or question from the book!
