Social media, once a frontier, has arguably become the most participatory public square in history. We will examine three topics drawn from recent headlines: (1) the new big data propagandists, and whether the manufacture of political division on social media can be regulated; (2) the public forum status of social media accounts maintained by political figures government agencies, and (3) the theory and practice of regulating hate speech on social media.
