Lunch & Learn Panelists
Hon. Judith E. Levy
Judith E. Levy is a United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan. She was nominated for her current position by President Barack Obama, and the U.S. Senate confirmed her nomination on March 12, 2014. She previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Michigan from 2000 to 2014, and she was the Civil Rights Unit Chief for the last three years. Before that time, she was a trial attorney with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Detroit. From 1996 to 1999, she served as a law clerk for Judge Bernard A. Friedman, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan. Since 2002, Judge Levy has taught seminars at the University of Michigan Law School on fair housing and policing.
Julie Piotrowski
Julie Piotrowski was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and is a graduate of Cleveland State University. Julie worked as a mental-health probation officer for nine years at the county level before beginning her federal career in the Northern District of Ohio as a U.S. Pretrial Services and Probation Officer in March 2018. In October 2018, Julie attended initial officer training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Charleston, South Carolina, where she was awarded the Distinguished Officer Safety Award and the Director’s Award. During her time in the Northern District of Ohio, Julie worked as a presentence investigations officer and was co-chair of the district’s wellness committee and a member of the safety team, social activities committee, and diversity committee. In 2020, Julie was named Probation Officer of the Year for the investigation unit. In August 2021, Julie bid Ohio Northern a bittersweet farewell as she transferred to the Eastern District of Missouri to be with her fiancée, Anna. Julie and Anna currently live in St. Louis, Missouri, with their dog, Elliot.
John Licatatiso
John Licatatiso is a graduate of John Carroll University with a BA in communications. He is the training coordinator for The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Center of Greater Cleveland. He has also served as the HIV Outreach Coordinator at Circle Health Services and is an AmeriCorps alumni. His background is in community health, and he has an extensive history of working with underserved and at-risk populations. His most recent work history has included STI-prevention education and work as part of Cuyahoga County’s syringe-exchange program. Through his work, John has developed a passion for advocating and empowering the most marginalized groups, in particular, LGBTQ people. John is a lifelong Clevelander, and he is also a freelance graphic designer.
Aidan Maraachli
Aidan Maraachli graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2017 and began clerking for Judge Stephanie Dawkins Davis in the Eastern District of Michigan. He is now a career law clerk to Magistrate Judge Curtis Ivy, Jr., in the same court. He came out publicly as transgender in early 2021. When he’s not working, he enjoys CrossFit and doing outdoor activities with his dog.
